    Hi everyone,

I run a dual-boot machine with XP SP2 and Vista RC2 on a P M running at 1.86GHz (the equivalent of a P4 2.5GHz) and I've found that Vista is just faster in general. Application execution, boot-up, shut-down, and just manuvering around Vista. Has anyone else experienced this? And can anyone enlighten me as to why that is?

    Thanks to all...:)

Yes. Why? Because Vista is brand new code & XP is over 5 years old :D

Right, which is why so many applications are not compatible, of course. A few key applications are, however, and I just love using Vista vs. XP more and more. It took akmost no time getting used to the slightly different and, in my opinion, improved user interface. The Snipping Tool, for example, is one awesome mini app. Very useful. IE7 also runs 10 times faster on Vista than on XP. I actually uninstalled IE7 from my XP OS and IE6 is way faster than IE7 on XP. Logic would dictate that that is because of the same reason you stated?

Also, do you, or anyone else, have a ballpark release date for the final version? When will it hit stores? I am almost looking forward as much to Vista as I am to my new Cingular Treo 750. :)

Excellent. So what are the hundreds of software developers going to do? They have 2 months to either release Vista-compliant versions of their software or come out with some kind of patch. I don't know if the latter is even an option being it's brand new code (Vista).

Microsoft has deep relationships with software developers.
There are few if any surprises for them in Vista.

It is decidedly in Microsoft's advantage to keep software developers informed at every stage in the development of a new OS, or with any major upgrade. This is true as well for hardware and device driver authors.
