I have for days been having problems with SP3. At first it would just hang and never finish. So today, I shut everything I could down including my firewall...

Well this solved the problem and I was able to d/l SP3 using the Windows update link on my Start Button. It went through all that it needed and then told me to restart the comp and I did, no problem. It told me to re-boot and I did. Everything loaded with no problems and then I went to the windows update to run another check and low and behold it tells me that I need to d/l and install SP3...

Yet if I go to the area of the windows update page and look at my history, it shows that SP3 was downloaded and installed correctly...

So I went through some posts and found the link that allowed me to d/l SP3 from a different MS site and installed it and everything went great. Re-boot with no problems and then when I went to the windows update site it continues to say that I need to d/l and install SP3...

At tthis point I am thoroughly confused???? Anyone having the same problem and found a work around??? I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong and that SP3 is applied correctly and fixes and patches what it is supposed too...I know I am reaching here...LOL...

Thanks for your time and help...;) :p  :D

I certainly can't account for the very strange behavior you are seeing.

Best I can suggest for now is that you check the SP3 detail page on the M$ site for dates & sizes of some of the files and compare them to what you have on your 2K machines. Many/most of the system files should be fairly recent dates I imagine.

The only SP3 updates I've done were smooth and problem free.

A suggestion with a SP or any other large update - download the file, place a copy on one of your local machines, and run the update from there. Or if your network bandwidth isn't up to that, load a local copy and then update.

thanx for the reply...i finally was able to apply SP3...I was finally able to download SP3 and was able to install from there and it took a couple of rounds to get M$ to recognize the application...I guess M$ still is as tweaky as always...again thanks for responding, I had forgotten about this posting...:D
