 Okay everyone, I just discovered another problem ** that I assume ** is an issue with SP2, although I can't prove it yet:

As I said in my other post, I recently did a clean install of XP, including all updates, etc.

I've owned my QuickCam Pro 4000 for almost a year, and WinXP has run it flawlessly ever since... That is (bum bum buuummmm) until I installed SP2 - All of a sudden, I can't make it work. I tried using the original CD.. Didn't work. Locked up. Asked for files that neither exist on the product CD or anywhere on the HD.

So I figured I'd download the "latest" drivers and software from Logitech's site (they say all of their products have been tested and work with SP2, and to their credit, my cordless kbd/mouse do work) -- However the cam doesn't.

I have had the same issues with their newest software/driver versions. The installer all of a sudden requests a file that simply doesn't exist anywhere on the system ( or in the installer package )...

Has anyone else had this issue?

Update: Okay - I decided that since I payed for my cam, I should get use out of it.. SO - I decided to uninstall XP2.. Yahuh.. That was a no-go.. Error after error - It would seem SP2 doesn't like to be uninstalled :) So I used the "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" to save ... well... my settings..

I then booted to the recovery console via the CD, formated C: and reinstalled XP. After I had downloaded all XP updates, save SP2, I installed my camera with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Happy with this, I went to the Wizard again to get my settings and etc. back.. Um, nope. It seems that the format of the actual DAT file is different under SP2 than pre-SP2.. The wizard wouldn't even recognise the file..

<SIGH> So I upgraded to SP2 and it transferred things like my email messages, account info, favorites, etc. without a hitch.. (Usually I just manually back up things that I deem important, but since I'd never messed with the F & S Xfer Wiz before, I gave it a whirl.. That'll be the last time I do that.

So it would seem that the camera works fine under SP2 if it is already installed, but installing the software and drivers POST SP2 upgrade creates many problems..

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

    Good to know. Thanks.

Sounds like folks with that device need to uninstall it before the upgrade then install it after.

Interesting that the Logitech site doesn't have any sort of warning though.
