    Hi Guys

Since installing SP2, javascript will not execute properly

Example:- If you go to http://f1.racing-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/060818124104.shtml

and click on the zoom link below the image, the window does not open.I have disabled pop-up blocker but it still does not open.I experience this problem on all 3 browsers
    IE/FF/OPERA

    Please help

    Kimmy

guru123k--I have no problem seeing the Zoom image. (Not that that helps you. :) )
Try clicking IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Custom Level and set all the Scripting options to Enable|OK|Apply|OK.
If that does not help, put the URL for that site into your Trusted Sites.
If none of that helps and you had no problems until recently, perhaps a System Restore?
Did this happens exactly when you installed SP2? You could try uninstalling SP2 from ControlPanel|Add/Remove. But first, be sure you only have one Firewall running. WinXP SP2 installs the Windows Firewall by default. If you have a third party firewall (like ZoneAlarm) you do not want both running. Turn Windows Firewall off. Control Panel|Windows Firewall.

Hi, Kimmy. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

Looks like you have ruled out browsers as a possible source of your problem (assuming you don't have all of them configured to not use Javascript).

What brand(s) and version(s) of software anti-virus (and/or other anti-malware) are you running?

What brand/version of firewall are you running?

Sometimes these applications can be configured to block Javascipt. For example, the ZoneAlarm firewall can be configured to block "Mobile Code" (which is ZoneAlarm's umbrella term for ActiveX, Java, Javascript, etc.).

Thanks for the reply.Yes the problem started when I installed SP2.I checked all the security settings.THis happens on all 3 of my browsers.IE/FF/OPERA.

It seems that user defined javascript functions are not executing.Like window.open() is ok , but like the user defined one on the F1 site it does not open.POP-UP blocker is turned off.I only have one firewall and I turned it off and tested as well.I did the clearing cache and cookies etc
    Any thoughts please

Christer, I think something about that page has changed since this thread was started. When guru123k first posted this I could see the zoom button. It's not there anymore though. I'm not so sure the page is even the same page. Just thought I'd let you know so you didn't think there was something wrong with your java script too. :) FWIW, you wouldn't see the java icon in the tray even if the button was there. Java script isn't the same thing as Java. I don't really know how to explain it other than to say that Java is a programming language that uses it's own engine to display the result. Java script is a scripting language that uses MS's scripting engine to get the job done. Java script should work regardless of whether Java is installed or not. Not a very good explanation but my guess is that you get the idea. ;)

    Thanks Zander!

I didn't worry about my own Java when I didn't find that "zoom link below the image ". I assumed that something was not right with that web page and now, you pointed out that it had changed. I was kind of right ... ;) ... right?

I thought that without Microsoft Virtual Machine (no longer present since SP1a), you had to install Java for Java scripts to execute. I was obviously wrong.
