After loading SP2 on a machine I noticed a new LAN connection. This one shows Limited or no connectivity. The Activity shows Packets sent OK but the packets received with a padlock on the pipeline and a yellow exclamation point over it. Anyone else seen this anomaly?

Interesting - I too, have not come accross that one before.

I do wish Microsoft would stop playing around like this. The line "STATUS
This behavior is by design." ( From this page) leaves me speechless. One of the great things about TCP/IP is the length of time it has been around and how simple it is once you understand the basic rules. And then Microsoft start faffing around like this .....

I also got a second Local Area Connection icon installed by WinXP in Control Panel|Network Connections . In my case it is the Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection, but since I have no network, and probably because I disabled network services in Services, it is "disabled ".
Strange that a Camera or TV card would create a Local Area Connection. You would think this would be in My Computer under Cameras and Scanners.

    Nope, wasn't it.

Here is the deal, I just repaired this computer for a guy and I have a cable connection. That is what I used for updates, etc.

Now he gets it back home and he has DSL. SBCGlobal. He can't connct so he calls them and they get the connection going for him. I think he was trying to connect to the LAN that is unusable. Does he just delete it? Diable it? Why is it there?
