Windows Vista SP1 for Vista

After seeing the availability of SP1 today I installed on an Acer 5610 and all went well. 40 minutes later and three restarts all seem to be OK. As a Novice I really don't know what to look for as to changes.

I also tried to install on a Gateway Desktop, no luck there. Error stating upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.

Vista came installed on both PCs. The SP1 update was found on Windows Update. It was not listed for Gateway Desktop but found on a Microsoft page. Tried to "run" the installation there but would not. Tried to save to file and run from there, it would not and got the error message above.

Help on solving the installer program for the Gateway Desktop would be appreciated.

 

Thank you Sir for your quick response. I think I understand your answer. The Laptop Acer has all the correct drivers installed so it took the Sp1. The Gateway Desktop does not have all current drivers so the update won't install.

Since your letter, I've check all things in the Device Manager and found nothing needing an update.

So my hopes are on Gateway or another manufacture getting their gears moving and providing an update for something I have.
