When I get an e-mail, for example, that has music with it, most of the time I get a sound like a growling/groaning animal. Then I get the message about a illegal operation and get shut down. Can anyone help me?

    Karen.
Which program does you use for EMail ? Outlook Express ?
Which program do you use for playing sounds files ?
When you get an EMail, is the sound included as an attachment ?
If so, what type of file is it ?
Sorry - all questions and no answers for now...
    regards

Thanks for asking questions. I really didn't know how to ask.

If I remember correctly, it's when I use Outlook Express and comes with an attachment. I believe it also occurs when I am on the internet. For example, someone sends me to a site with pictures. It is also playing a song. About 90% of the time, I get kicked off.

I hope this helps. The only thing I don't know is what type of file. I can pay closer attention to that detail next time.

Do you know if you have more than one Audio Player installed ?

I mean like Wnidows Media Player and Real Player. Or even winamp has caused trouble for me. If so they may be fighting each other.

I would suggest opening Windows Media player and fined the proper tag for formats. It is tough to say which tag that is cause it is different in different versions of WMP.

When you do find it check the box for SELECT ALL and then click on Apply. Then restart Windows.

Here is hoping that this fixes things for you.

Karen, Seems to me I've seen this on the BBS before. I think it was something to do with virus or spyware or the like. I do remember the groaning sound having something to do with it.

Anyone remember more than my old tired prune-like brain can remember?

    That is possible,

    Certainly something to think about.

Thanks for the wake up call.

Do you have a sound scheme that uses sounds for applications? Perhaps you have a corrupted or bad sound wav associated with the opening of your mediaplayer of choice? Could try disabling any such sound scheme and see if problem goes away.

Thanks everyone. I will check things out - now that I have a place to start. You are all smart about this stuff.

I don't remember if I did a search here or not. But, thanks for reminding me. I haven't been here in a while and almost forgot what to do.

    It's a stretch but....

Haven't used Gozilla in forever, but doesn't the newer/newest growl and have some bells and whistles that allow music file manipulation.

    Took a quick look:
Quote;Integration with your favorite media players means that music can be automatically added to your playlist when download, videos queued up to be watched, or countless other possibilities.
    AND
Go!Zilla can integrate with your browser to intercept browser clicks and will decide whether it is a file that you would like to download. Sometimes you will come across a file that Go!Zilla wants to intercept, but you would rather just view it in your browser. To make Go!Zilla ignore the file, hold and keep the ALT key pressed while you click on the link in your browser. Keep the ALT key pressed until the link has started loading from your browser.

    Could this be possible?
