I have one program that is supposed to send sound clips thru the Windows API.
Many of my apps do so: Quicken for one , Windows start and shutdown, Windows errors, etc. I have an important reminder, Schedule Wiz, that does not do so as the author said it should. This is a new version and the older versions did send the sounds.

    What could cause this?

    Hi tenbob,

Control panel > Sounds, Audio Devices > Value tab > Device Volume > Advanced.

Anything muted? or the Sound turned down?

    Regards - Charles

That was the first thing I checked. All the other system sound setups are fine and the wav files do play thru Windows Media player, even the sounds I have selected in the SchuleWiz app.

    Hi tenbob,

If everything is as it should be in XP and older versions work, then I would question the latest vesion.

My thought was that this software used an input not used by any of your other sounds and you didn't notice muting because not used, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

I have had, perhaps, 50 email discussion with the author and his version works fine. He has spent so much personal time with me on this I have to believe in his honesty and sincerity

His name is Vince Sorensen directsupport@authord.com and perhaps you and he could figure this out.

    Hi tenbob,

You probably have been thru the gamut of controls in the Sounds with the Author.

What is the input sound, wave - midi, something else?

Give me a link to the software. If paid, is there a trial?

    Regards - Charles

I do think I have been thru the sound controls.

The software is Schedule Wiz from http://www.authord.com/

There is a trial period and the author Vince Sorensen is very helpful (that is, he has been on other problems in the past due to my doing.

    Hope you can help

I forgot to answer one of your questions: The sound input is .wav and I have been using the app for at least 5 years, assigning my own stock .wav files to particular tasks. The particular sounds are not important except that they get my attention to messages depending the category

    Medical: ambulance
    Money: cash register
    Entertainment: music
    Computer: artificial

    etc.

    Hi tenbob,

Got to the site and downloaded the v4.0 trial.

If you haven't done so, try it in Safe Mode or with the minimum software running - just the security apps running. There is always the possibilty that some other app is interfering.

    Regards - Charles

I am still unable to use my wav files in Schedule Wiz and am trying new software that does use the sounds. It has several things that make it less useful than SW and I may not keep it up but I had to try.

Have you had any luck with the copy you downloaded and installed.

    Hi Tenbob,

    Ok, installed and works.

The two sound files that I have are midi and wav. Don't have any mp3 sound files. The sound files I used were stock files in \Windows:\Media\ folder. I have a lot of wav files of my own - try those next time.

Uses WMP and constantly running - did you look at a possible problem with the media player itself? Bring up the WMP from Start > All Programs and it'll play whatever sounds you picked. See if it works from there.

I'm thinking about finding ways to make it fail.

    Regards - Charles

WAV sound files play fine thru IMP with a slight but managable delay but that isn't the problem. The app Schedule Wiz cannot be configured to play thru WMP rather than the Windows API according to Vince (author)
