After I installed the XP service pack my sound recorder is not working any more? Can not record with a mic.
    What can I do?

Assuming Sound Recorder is starting up, just won't record, here are the basic troubleshooting steps to start with:

    1. Check to make sure the mic is securely plugged into the sound card and if there is an of/off switch on the mic, it's in the "on" position.

    2. Check the settings in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices.

    3. Check Device Manager to make sure there aren't any yellow "splats" under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" (or anywhere else, for that matter).
