my sound is not working at all for my laptop, and when i go to device manager and look at it, it has a "!" mark on the sound driver, which is SoundMax. When i double click on my sound driver, it says the device loaded, but cannot find hardware device

My computer is all clean.. and tried to update sound driver, but it still says that

Hi Spikey Pirate, Have you uninstalled the device, shutdown and restarted computer to get it to reload? Neil.

    me too!

    Hi,

I have this problem with my PC too! My sound max also doesn't work and under control panel - sounds and audio devices - it says that no audio device. I don't know what caused it, but my friend suggested it could be internet explorer 7. I took it to a computer guy at uni and he took out my internal modem - I am using an external modem. He said that my internal modem was conflicting with the external modem???? He also deleted a second sound driver (i think). But this hasn't worked.
I have also tried unistalling sound max and reinstalling it from the intel CD. But this hasn't worked.
