sound not working properly xp prof

    hello there

    im very new to pcs and internet and i mainly have it for listening to music an chating to friends and family anyway.i recently got some new speakers which were just brillant really loud and bassy better than my steroe! then today for some reason they sound awful really echoy and distant ive tried looking on a few things but dont like to mess around to much in case i damage it! i am using winamp to listen to my music.im on windows xp professonal not sure why as half of it havnt a clue whats for and ive tried doing that sytem restore but got cant do it i get as far as the opitons on to system then theres no opition for system restore.im pretty sure its not the speakers as they are brand new and were working just fine yesterday.any help would be grand.:)

    always check the cables first. unplug/replug w/ confidence ;) it's often the connection not being seated all the way in and then the bass part vibrates and makes it worse.

    check u'r sound card options for echo as most DO have such. depends on u'r sound card make/model and it's software. in Sound Blaster, it's the mixer's enhancements. turn em all off.
