Is there a way to have Outlook Express play a sound when a message arrives from a certain person? I can have it highlighted from certain people, but would like for it to play a sound.
I know how to attach sound files and send messages with sound in the background.
I have a feeling that this may not be possible, but figured this is the place to find out.
    Thanks.

Tools->Options->General Tab->Play a sound will work for ALL new emails..

Or if you setup a message rule, you can have it highlighted in color, flaged or moved..

    Go to Start--Settings--Control Panel
    Double click on SOUNDS
Under "EVENTS" scroll down to "New Mail Notification "
    Click on it
Under- Name Dialog Box-just keep scrolling until you find somthing you like.
Test the sound by clicking on the box with the BLACK arrow in it under "PREVIEW" (picture of speaker)
If you don't like it scroll to something else then TEST it again.
When you find something you like Click on APPLY then OK at bottom of box.

Maybe I wasn't clear with my question. I appreciate the suggestions, but I already know how to play a sound for new messages and how to have then highlighted. I also know how to send a message with sound in the background.
My question is -- Is it possible to have a sound play ONLY when a message arrives from a certain person and not on the rest of the messages

OE is not capable of doing this. But, as I mentioned before you can setup a message rule, you can have it highlighted in color, flagged or moved..

Just for the fun of it...

Suppose the highlighting rule pointed to a .wav file? Would the "color" be interpretted as a sound?

If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it, does it still make sound?

    Yes. But not in Windows;)

    Re: Sound

Thanks for your replies. I didn't think there was a way to do this.
As far as directing it to a wav file, I can't find a way to do that.
I do have the one I wanted sound with, come in highlighted. I guess that will have to do,
Thanks for all of your replies.
