I have Windows XP on my computer. And I have a monitor with built-in speakers. Can any one tell me how to put an icon on my taskbar which will allow me to make the sound louder or lower? Also, should I keep the sound turned off on my monitor? Thank you.

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Click Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices.
    3. Under Pick a task, click Change the speaker settings.
    4. In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, on the Volume tab, select the Place volume icon in the taskbar check box, and then click OK.

Now, when you want to adjust the volume, click the icon and move the slider.

Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices
Under the volume control area on the top is a check box " place volume control on taskbar.
    Check that box.
Make sure you choose ok after that or apply.
Note the mute box above the icon box- it can cause a lot of trouble accidentally and knowing of it can solve a lot of computer audio or lack of audio issues.
