    Hi there people.

I have a strange problem with my onboard soundcard.
It will cut in and out as it pleases with games/ playing music and sometimes slows the pc down also. Have checked with antivirus and adware programs but no idea still

I had updated the drivers and under control panel/devices everthing seemed fine.

    I have a Abit IC7 MAX3 motherboard running a pentium 4 3.0 processor
    with 1024mb ram.The onboard sound is ac97.

Sorry I cannot supply other information at this stage.

Does anyone have a idea on this?

    Thank-you in advance,

    Hi,

I would go to the Abit website and not only get the most recent sound drivers, but also the most recent motherboard/chipset drivers. The chipset drivers control things further back up the line, like the "CPU to PCI Bridge" that the sound components will rely on.
Run the chipset drivers program first and reboot. If everything looks OK, then run the sound drivers program. If there is no change when you reboot after that, get Windows to update again.

Still no change. Uninstall the soundcard drivers completely and let Windows reinstall them.

    Matt
Edit: I suppose you have checked the connections. One time I ripped out the sound drivers twice only to find that the jack wasn't fully seated when I crawled under the desk to look at the back of the tower :D .
