ackerberg--The (Roxio) Sonic Record Now! site offers only v8, so a little difficult to comment about 7.2.2

    Perhaps some help here

Is this a freebie upgrade? It seems that some PC makers are offering a freebie upgrade.

If you are offered a freebie, please let us know the source.

It is a freebie upgrade for my Compaq Presario which I found at HP's website for my computer. It seems it is the complete program rather than an upgrade because it removes the old program.
Did you try the freebie at the site you indicated above for an upgrade if you have a previous version on your computer? Apparently that would work for any brand computer which has it ibstalled, right?
It is a later version than the one I found.

ackerberg--The only "update" I find at Roxio's site costs $35.

To which of my links are you referring?
    The http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-43887
site seems to be usable by only a very specific bunch of ThinkPads. I just referred to it as an example of PC makers offering RecordNow! updates. It seems you have found the one for your PC.
Sorry I cannot find info on v7.2.2. It is quite possibly an OEM version not generally available to the public, just as the update may be.
