How do I ,STEP BY STEP, remove 95 and install 98? We have a second computer for the kids and we have a win 98 disc. NOT AN UPGRADE DISC.

    Hi Dzny!

    Welcome to the BBS!

You will need to prepare for your task by getting a good grasp of the fundamentals. Nobody will be able to give you step by step directions that are fool proof. If you are unwilling to spend the time to learn these basics, you are better off letting someone else do the job for you.

If that hasn't discouraged you, go to Joe's place and click on the link marked 95/98 Clean Install. If you have a good Win98 boot disk that you have tested to give access to your CD-ROM drive, you can ignore the first part of the info there. Read all of the rest and be sure you are clear on what to do.

After you read those instructions, post back if you have any questions or need something additional.

    Cheers. :)

I would reccomend that you do an upgrade (overlay install). This can be done even though you do not have the ugrade disk.

It can work well with a little prep.

So read the info at Joes to get a concept and come back and I will give you the steps to do this.

The reason I suggest an upgrade is:

    1. being a win95 system I presume it is an older computer
    2. because of this the drivers may be hard to find
    3. I bet you don't have all the disks and drivers that came with it
    4. if it works everything you have on your computer now will work as soon as you finish.
    5. a new install will cause you to have to reinstall everything you want back. So after install you are only half done.
    6. if it will not upgrade then you have not lost anything since you didn't think it (upgrade) would work anyway.

The prep I spoke of concerns cleaning up temps and config errors and ending autoload startup programs.

    Your choice.

    I only give options.

    Mike
