I am having an issue with users opening Excel attachments. We are using Outlook 2003 and Exchange Server 2003. There seems to be something about the setup on the recipient's computer. It happens to some recipients frequently, while never happening to others. Recently, 2 users in another division of our company (they also use Outlook / Exchange) were sent spreadsheets (copies of the same email). One was fine, the other could not be opened.

    Any ideas?

Did they indeed see the attachment?

Are they having problems opening the attachment within the email or after they save it to their pc?

What happens when they try to open the file?

I used to have the same problem:

able to "see" attachment in email, i.e. the paper clip icon, but the icon appears to be in lighter colour, and when clicking on the "attachment" or the paper clip icon, you can "see" the attachment, but it just cannot be "opened ".

It was some time ago and I already forgot the details, but it had something to do with the anti-virus software I was using. After disabling that anti-virus software, the problem was solved.
