    Hi,
I'm trying to run windows live messenger but when I click on it I get a

"Application Error ...failed to intialize properly (0xc0000142) "

Was lookin on other posts and missing dll's seems to be the suggested problem. I've downloaded all the dll's they mentioned but to no avail.

Just wondering if anyone can help thank you.

Hi josyban. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

The first thing I would do is try downloading and installing the newest version of Windows Messenger from here. After its installed shut down all backround programs that are running in the system tray. See if Windows Messenger starts up now.

As a last resort if that doesn't work then click Start< Run and type sfc /scannow and press enter. Let the process run. Have your Windows XP CD ready in case SFC needs a file. Let me know if SFC found any missing Windows files or not.

Yes, uninstall your current messenger version and download & install the latest version.
