    Hello folks,

I'm doing a little troubleshooting on the combination of using XP, Epson C82 printer and Software602 PC Suite Pro.

I have win98se on C: with the printer and 602 installed and everything works just peachy.

I have XP Pro/sp1 on I: with printer and 602 installed and the peach has worms.

I cannot open any app in the suite as long as the printer is installed. I click on 602 text (word processor) and I get an hour glass for about 5 seconds and nothing else. I go to running processes and text602.exe is there. I click on the other apps and the same thing happens except that two of them open a splash screen and that's all.

The printer does work in all other progs. (Notepad, wordpad)

If I un-install the printer, 602 works fine. If I leave a file from 602 minimized and then reinstall the printer, I can print the file!

Of course, Epson says the printer is fine. I have installed the latest XP driver but no joy.

The Software602 folks are hung up on the dual boot by telling me that they don't support dual boot. I have tried un-installing 602 in 98se partition and reinstalling in XP. No joy either.

Is there some way that one OS can interfere with the other? If so, it is mighty peculiar that 602 is the only one bothered.

    Thanks

Sorry to say that I do not have a answer for you. I have 602 on my duel boot system (ME & 2000). I works OK with my Epson 740 printer when I use either ME or 2000.

    Thanks Russ,

I can at least tell 602 people that dual boot doesn't hurt.

If you haven't tried it, install the latest printer driver, and then install 602. It may have printer plugins.

Wild shot, but try disabling visual themes in the properties of the shortcuts. I'm finding more apps lately that work erratically with themes, including StyleXP, WindowBlinds, and even XP's default theme. Themes prevent some of my older apps from appearing, even though they are running in TaskManager.

I had dual-boot 98/XP for quite a while and had no problem such as you are having. 602Pro and 602ProLAN worked fine. I doubt dual-boot has anything to do with it.

Took me awhile to get back.

Installed XP by itself. All updates done.

Installed printer with latest XP driver.

    Installed 602...Same thing.

Turned off Themes in the shortcuts of the 602 programs. No change.

Changed compatibility mode in each shortcut to win 98/ME. No help.

I think the bottom line is 602 won't work with Epson Stylus C82 printer. Program works fine if I take the printer out.

Thanks for the try though. I appreciate it very much.

    Here is my workaround:

I installed my wife's HP 855c and set it as the default. Epson is still installed.

I can use 602 software and in the print dialog, I select the epson to print to. I took the HP back to my wife and left the software installed as default. Works like a champ.

    Conclusion:

602 software suite will not work with Epson Stylus C82 on Windows XP Pro sp1 installed as USB or Parallel. It will work on that printer and Win 98se.

Why do I bang my head against the wall with this? It's a good Office program and is Free.;)

    LOL.

Don't blame you at all for trying to get to the bottom of this especially specialized and strange problem.

I, too, like 602. When installing Windows on others' computers, I install 602 on computers of the people who think they don't want any office program. They inevitably end up needing one for something.

602 is small, compatible with almost all major office programs, has a good photo editor and spreadsheet, and even with all the extras is less than $100. I have Office XP on CD but so far don't need anything that massive :) . And, no, I don't work for them.
