Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me.
I am trying to install Sonic Foundry Vegas 3.0 which uses the Windows installer for all versions of Windows. The software installs the Installer and then asks to restart the system.

After attempting to install It gets the reqired information and asks me to restart and I get this message on the reboot:

Windows could notupgrade the file %1 from %2 ,%1: %2
Windos could not upgrade one or more systems files before starting windows may not run or start properly
If windows fails to start run set-up again.
    Press any key to continue.

Does anyone know what this is telling me and how I might be able to correct this. Your help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks, Mike

Disable system restore for the moment and clean out your /_restore/temp directory.

Make sure you have disabled any running AV program when you try the installs.

Norton 2000 is not compatible with ME BTW unless you have the OEM 6.2 version

Thanks NEWT, but my problems were a bit deeper than first realized. I had to refomat the drive and load it up again. I'm now having a problem getting my music stored in the D drive to play on Windows Media Player. I need Program.exe to play mp3's and cannot find it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Take a look at Q191219 which was written for Win98/IE4 but may still be the same sort of thing that is causing your problem.

Also, Q309538 speaks of a similar happening with WinME because of problems with an incomplete uninstall of an AV program.

Neither of these may give you a solution but they should at least give you some ideas and things to try.

Thanks Newt, I got the problem straightened out. I had to reinstall my A/V software. I saved the Q's for future reference. You never know when you have to refresh. Thanks again!
