In PCWorld Mag for this month there is a program I want to try. It's title is GIMP. It indicates on the web page http://www.gimp.org/ that it's for developers or some similar language. I download the file and it's like a foreign language to me.

Question: Is there a tutorial URL somewhere that the Average Novice can study to get the expertise to use this type of download?

If someone has time to look at the program and advise me it would be very helpful.

    From http://www.gimp.org/windows/

Did you use the Automated Installer (near the page top) to load it?

Did you get the documentation and the intro to GIMP from the bottom of the page?

I can get to the Installer Page OK. From the bottom I try the VALID XHTML link and it never opens. Gives a 404 error.

After reading the FAQ this program may be more trouble for just a couple of pictures than it's worth. I'm looking for something to remove cracks from just a few very old photos. Hoped that this program might have one. Don't feel like buying a program from what little work I have.

"The learning curve is probably steper than you'd like." I'm sure you're right about this. Thanks for the info.
