I just noticed that half my icons on my desktop have change to blank ones with the short-cut arrows. I have been using PC Pitstop Optimize daily for months now and gone 100% with their recomendations.... i don't think they caused it, but don't know for sure.

I tried System Restore (I'm using XP Home sp2) two days ago and no change now it won't let me enter any date except the highlighted one (today's date) I've done un-restore, but no change. I noticed "Software Distribution Service 3.0" is showing several times on the Restore Page.

Not knowing what that is I google it and I see it is causing many others problems. Haven't seen any re. losing the desktop icons icons. As far as I can see my pc is working OK other than the missing icons and system restore acting up.

Any one had this problem and/or can offer advice ?

If the shortcuts work alright, it's likely a corrupt icon cache file. There are several ways to reconstruct that cache but the easiest is to change the screen resolution from the present setting to something else and then change it back. That rebuilds the file and will fix your problem, if that is indeed the problem...no harm if it isn't.
