Copied from the folder AU_Temp\AU_Down\ folder. And this is only A SMALL part of the contents. Some of which goes WAY back to 2002.

Is this how Windows and individual software keeps track of things ?

There is a whole bunch of folders starting with AU

This probably should be in the XP section.

Am I thinking correctly that all the stuff in those AU_*** folders has to do with Updating. ( auto update ? )

I know for a fact that HouseHold updated some things before I started tha online scan.

I found things today that are dated back in '99. Had to be 98.

I find the same folders in 98SE but not to the same extent.

You are seeing evidence of what (imho) is one of the biggest innovations for software; Self updating code.

    /activeupdate/product/auhccup1.zip has a new version of auHCcup1.dll
    /pattern/vsapi333.zip contains a pattern file
    etc etc.

These files are probably updated GUIs, Scanning engines and virus signatures. Does this behavior concern you or are you happy about it?

    Thank you Ben.

Nope. I am not realy concerned about them,

Once I got in ( with more wide open eyes ) I came to the conclusion that you confirmed.

And Tue Jan 04 15:42:03 2005 coincides very well ( or close to ) the time that I DID run a Housecall online scan.

With further searching I find other things match app times I did something.

But I do need to ask.

Is this something the software itself does or is it Windows XP ?

My vote goes to Software. Trend Micro in this case.

    Thanks again.

    Oh Kee Doe Kee.

Today has been a good day. I found something new. And learned that it WAS NOT TRASH as I first though it might be.

    Now further proof.

I just did an online Virus scan from Trend Micro ( which had NOT been done B4 ) on the 98SE machine. Lo and behold when it got done and I looked, there was the info with Date & Time for Housecall.

When I started the scan it took a couple of minutes to download stuff.

    Thanks again
