hi there. sorry if this is the wrong place to post such a Q... didnt know where else to go!

I have a domain name I purchased, and forwarded it to my IP address. That pings correctly and people can log in using FTP - great. (just as a test)

next thing I wanna do is setup POP3/SMTP

I have installed the services in WS2003 Ent Edition. I have added a domain in the POP3 service (domain.co.uk) and added a mailbox, admin and gave it a password. great.

I also configured the SMTP service in IIS and made sure that the relay is configured correctly. Also set the advanced outbound connection (?) to domain.co.uk

I also updated my domain name DNS by adding an MX record (10):

    domain.co.uk MX 10

    is this correct?

now, I have to wait 24 hours for the dns to update.

On my other computer, I have installed outlook 2003 (client) and added an email account, with the username/password setup on the mailbox on the WS2003 box. the outgoing and incoming connection was set to the MACHINE NAME of the WS2003 box. I was able to test the connection and all tests passed apperently.

now, I sent an email from my "mailserver" to my hotmail account and it arrives, great!

however if i reply - the reply goes no where or is sent back (from my hotmail account to my hotmail account).

When i look at the POP3 MMC service snap in, any emails recieved or sent are not being showed in the counter. When i look in the mailbox folder (inetpub\mailroot....) all emails sent from this mailbox are stored in the BadMail folder!

any ideas what on earth is going on? How can i send and recieve emails properly?

    Thanks!

The reason of the email on the badmail folder it is because are NDR - Non delivery messages.

    lol i relize that :)

anyway... its wierd.. all works fine now.

ok so this is what I have done and having problems with:

installed WS2003 ENT Edition on a computer
    enabled POP3/SMTP, configured it.
    made a domain in POP3 as "mywebsite.co.uk"
    made a mailbox

then I have a domain, lets say "mywebsite.co.uk "... I forwarded that (A record) to the IP address of my cable modem (WAN)

it seems to ping to the domain correctly

Then in the MX records I put in "mywebsite.co.uk "

on my other computer (XP) I have outlook 2003 installed. I made an email account and my POP3/SMTP addresses were "mywebsite.co.uk ". I tested the email account by clicking the test button and all seems hunky dory!

I am able to send emails to myself, and to external email addresses.

    PROBLEM:

If i reply from my external email addy (hotmail for example)... The reply does not come to mywebsite.co.uk... oh no no no... it replies back to hotmail with no errors! Just as if i was replying back to myself

What is the problem? Where am i going wrong?
