[SMTP Error sending with Thunderbird]

    I have recently switched to windows 8 and spent quite a bit of time getting used to it. Everything has worked with my email until now when I am getting an error message "Sending email failed" because of connection to SMTP. Mail is coming in, but nothing will persuade it to go out! I am running Firefox's Thunderbird. I also use g.mail as back up and that is fine. Mails are not long, any ideas I would like to avoid the over long phone calls if possible.

    Slightlymuddled, welcome to WindowsBBS.

    I assume that before switching to Win 8, you were not facing any problems with Thunderbird. You should check the SMTP configuration as the underlying OS doesn't has to do anything with sending/receiving mail.

    Mail error messages are sent by the mail server and displayed in thunderbird. Check the details of the error message. It's probably a problem with the mail provider. And temporary.

    Hi Slightlymuddled, Do you have W8.1 nstalled? I'm wondering whether your OS operated OK - then the Update to 8.1 may have upset things.
    Did anything new occur recently like software installs?

    I use TB as Client and gmail as Server. The change was from previously POP3 to IMAP and consequent Port changes. It was just a thought to check on.
