I am using Netscape 7.1 and at the very end of the Formatting Toolbar is an icon with a drop down menu for inserting smiley faces. Since I find this easier than using the Insert button on the MENU bar, I was telling a friend that recently started using 7.1 about this option. When she said she didn’t have that option, I started checking in the Preferences section thinking I had seen an option for setting this item on the toolbar.

Under the Composer category is a tab for Toolbars. Even though there was no option for putting smiley’s
on the Formatting Toolbar, there were some items checked and some that were not checked that did not match what was on the Composition and Formatting Toolbars. So, wanting to experiment, I unchecked all boxes in both areas, but they did NOT remove themselves from the toolbars.

Now, this is not big deal, but I am wondering why my friend wouldn’t have the same things on her toolbar (smiley faces) and why, if I have nothing checked do items still show up?

    Thanks.

    Hi vegaspat,

If your friend doesn't have HTML enabled in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Account Name then the Smiley drop down menu will be grayed out. If that option (HTML) is enabled, she made need to enlarge the mail window by doing a mouseover on the corner of the window, and expand.

Can you be specific about the Toolbar options you were not able to view?

When you say "Composer" are you relating to the Message composition window in Mail & NG's or the actual Composer component used to develop web pages?

    Lemmeno,

    Ramona,

I will make a copy of your message and pass it on to my friend so she can figure it out.

I think that perhaps you have answered a question for me.
When I do Edit/Preferences, Categories listed are: Appearance, Navigator, Composer, Mail and Newgroups, etc.

I was assuming, incorrectly I think, that the Composer category was for mail composition. Not so? This is for web page designing?

No wonder unchecking those buttons didn't remove them.

Good thing I am not into anything too far advanced.:D

    Thanks.
