    Hi,

Just now while using stinger virus software to clean a w32 infection, the virus software deleted a file called smci.exe from my office old wind 95 pc. It is not allowing any application to run now with this critical file as it says.

I searched the whole net for the file but nothing acheived.

Unfortunately i do not have the win 95 cd also to find if this file is there in it or not.

Would appreciate a help from this forum to resolve my mess.

I am in deep **** hope friends here can help.

    pgnayak,

Are you sure of that file name?

    I'd be willing to bet it's misc.exe
    Reinstall Microsoft Office.

You forgot to post the message, but I am going to take a guess and say this occurs whenever you try to run any executable program. Go get ExeFix8, and run it.
One way a virus makes sure it runs is to be associated to be run with every executable, the download fixes this.
Since this is a virus issue, I am moving this over to security.

    Thanks

    Dear Friends,

During the time i posted and the replies came in , i had to take intermediate steps, I got a bootable floppy and found that the smci is not a windows file at all, it iseems to be of some program on the pc or the virus or hackers plant.

I have since tried to remove this program, etc but no avail, now finally just as i got the message of the replies, i have just now reinstalled the windows 95 but this application came in again by itself.

I have backed my files in the meantime by a slave drive and now proceeding to format the pc, which i think is the best in the circumstances. I will also try the eyefix program and give feedback prior to formatting of the same.

    Thanks for the help.
