I need help makeing Windows XP show my smart media drive.

I have a HP Pavillion zd8252 laptop and when i first got it everything was fine; that is to say when i placed my smart media into the built-in digital drive it would appear normally/automatically under my computer...then after a while when i put my smart media into the built-in digital media reader it does not show up under my computer at all.

I checked under administrive tools and found the drive is recognized by the computer but it has no drive letter next to it. XP does not give it a letter. If i do it by hand then it appears under my computer but the next time i boot up its gone! This is frustrating. I uninstalled the drivers and installed them again...no luck; i went to HP and got the latest drivers and installed them...no luck.

Can anyone please help me to re-set the system to automatically map the drive. Or if im completely off base to please explain what needs to be done to correct the problem.

    Thanks.
