I am really stumped (and so is IBM) ... I have an IBM ThinkPad T30 running 2K. It is up to date with all Windows update and all IBM updates.

If I boot with the power cord in the blue screen which comes after the MS W2K start up screen and before the auto logon takes 75 seconds to reach the auto logon. If I remove the power cord it takes 10 seconds. If I put the power cord back after booting --- no problem. The event log has an error --- IRP Stack size invalid but it appears in both boots with and without the power cord. I have tried removing all peripherals (and there are quite a few) and it makes no difference. I have checked the device manager -- no red or yellow flags except for IR port which I keep turned off. I have turning off all extraneous programs during start up -- no difference.

I also have a T21 also operating 2K. It boots through the blue screen in 10 seconds with and without the power cord. If I use the T21 power cord on the T30 it takes 75 seconds to go through the blue screen instead of 10 seconds.

I can't find anything wrong with the system. Just mystified...

If the PC should boot using the power cord but with the battery removed, it would be interesting to see the results then.

Good idea... Didn't think of that...

T30 boot thru the blue screen in 5-10 seconds without battery and same power cord ...

now I am even more confused...

    any ideas appreciated...

I tried the T30 startup with plug and a different battery. Same results - 75 seconds...

I don't know enough specifics about hardware to say why but it surely seems like there is an issue with the battery or PC-battery connections on this.

I'd check back with the tech support folks with the new information. Sounds like something they gotta fix for you.

It sounds like it has a charging problem during boot. You can check some bios settings (probably want to look around power management). If nothing in there helps, try reinstalled the power related drivers (battery, charger...).
