I have Windows 2000 Professional and now find that when I delete a file from Explorer it takes about 15 seconds to action - the deleting window stays open all that time with the progress bar at the right end.

If I delete a file using a DOS Prompt then it only takes a second, or maybe less. :p

Any clues what might be happening  and how I can get a faster deletion working thru the GUI interface again?

Indexing turned on? That will slow things down some.

Try holding down the SHIFT key while clicking to delete the file. This will force a bypass of the recycle bin and immediately blitz the file.

    Yes, indexing is on

Thanks for the info - deleting using shift to bypass recycle bin does speed it up. I'll look to turning indexing off. Thanks.

Indexing is already turned OFF .. deletions still slow

I checked .. indexing service is already turned off on my machine, so I still have an unsolved problem

    Any other ideas?
