My wife's computer has a slow startup which occurred after a recent MS update. This update initially caused a change to Login and Shutdown which I managed to rectify. While doing this I noticed that the comp was slow to fully boot. When the Win Xp screen displays, you can count between 45 - 50 passes of the Blue dots before the Welcome screen comes up. My other 3 comps vary between 8 and 13 and 17 passes respectively. The wife's comp takes up to 3 minutes to get fully operational. It has AMD 2200Ghz Athlon XP CPU and 1.5GB RAM. The HDD is 40Gb and has 13.3Gb free space. I've carried out Scandisk and sfc /scannow, run Avast AV which placed 2 files (it found with Trojan?) in the Chest. Used CCleaner to clear Temp files etc, and Defragged. Any suggestions as to what is causing slow Startup as everything functions OK once it gets up to speed. The wife does play a lot of games on this comp. Neil.

For those who may have looked at this Post, the answer is simple. The PSU was the cause, as it finally stopped with a black screen when the wife was preparing some further work. She turned to look at the computer and it was black. I tried to start it and finally after a bit of diagnosis, I put another PSU in that I had and its all go again. Neil.:D
