    Win-98se, Internet explorer 6 (sp1) Outlook express 6 (sp1)
When scrolling with wheel mouse on e-mail messages (in outlook express) scrolling is slow and delayed. Scrolling is fine in IE6 and in all other programs. I had this problem before in internet explorer and was able to find a setting that fixed it thanks to Windows bbs. I am unable to locate any such setting in outlook express. Would appreciate any help

    Thanks pejsr

    pejsr,

Welcome Aboard the BBS Forum :D

Maybe one or more applications are running in the background that are seriously draining the system's resources. That would account for the sluggishness across any input methods used.

    IRDREED,

If this were the case would it also happen in internet explorer?
I don't have the same sluggish scrolling in any other program but outlook express. I have 640m of pc 133 ram. when I scroll the wheel mouse my cpu fan slows for a split second then the message will start to move, slow at first then fast. You may be right ,it almost sounds like my processor can't handle whats going on. If I grab the side bar and drag the message down it moves plenty fast though?? I run adaware and spybot and have used spybots tool to edit startup to as few items as i dare and it had no effect.

    tyan S230B m/b,athalon 1.2, win.98se,

    thanx pejsr

Perhaps it's what OE might be doing at the same time that you are scrolling.

OE, Messenger and a Virus Application can be set to do an infinite number of tasks via the options and rules settings. These tasks in combination with your scrolling, may be a bit more than can be handled by the available resource at one time.

You could monitor your resources with a handy-dandy utility. Many are available via the Archives which are full of recommendations. A walk through of your options and de-selecting anything you don't need done immediately upon opening may be a way of testing this.

I wonder what would happen if you open OE and let it run in background then use one of those,

programs, such as IE. Scroll within it. See if the scroll lag/sluggishness can be duplicated. Just curious, although this would not be a true test as the focus of activity may be switched to IE rather than OE. On the other hand if the "not bogged" is now running through molasses you can pretty well figure OE needs to be put on an activity diet or you need to be a bit more patient and wait out OE and co-partnered apps_tasks before scrolling through your mail. Particularly if these are HTML with embedded grahics or fonts.
