When viewing jpg's I have downloaded from my digital camera, the first few open instantly... after that it takes up to 30 seconds for a jpg to open. It never used to be this slow. I defraged checked for viruses but alas. Any ideas?

    thanks

Sounds like a memory issue. Pagefile probably. Fragmented probably, too small possibly, or both.

And if you have plenty of physical memory, you may have one stick with problems. Not likely but possible.

    Try this:

If you have more than one partition, move the bulk of the pagefile onto a partition other than the system one. Leave 2Mb on the system partition and place the remainder on any other partition where there is room.

Try fixing the size of the pagefile (avoids fragmentation IMO) and maybe set it larger than now. The "rule of thumb" is to set it at 1.5 times your physical memory but that is a very iffy rule. Try 512Mb if you can spare the space.

Get a copy of pagefiledefrag (free) from http://www.sysinternals.com and use it. Not only will defrag the pagefile but also the various registry hives that aren't touched by the built-in defrag program.
