    Hello sutsujsti,

Up at the top, uncheck Show Updates - those are MS updates and depending on how many, the display of the MS patches installed can slow things down.

    Regards - Charles

The time to display the list of installed programs is very much dependant on the number of programs you have loaded and, as Charles posted, will be extended if the 'show updates' box is checked.

3 mins is excessive, nearer to 30 secs would be the mark, but I have the impression that the list used to load much faster a year or so ago. Possibly one of the updates since then has slowed this down?

Not only will it depend on the number of items in the list but on the speed of your computer too.

Just tried a simple test here. Clicked Start | Run, typed in appwiz.cpl and positioned my cursor over the [ OK ] button. As soon as the clock's second hand reached "12 ", (there's a clock directly above my monitor), I clicked [ OK ].

Elapsed time to populate the Add or Remove Programs window and have the first one in the list highlighted was between three and four seconds. (And that's with Show Updates selected).

The number of items in the list is 165:

    ---[ScreenCutBegin]---
    Code:
    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\>regedit /e c:\$.tmp "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall "

    C:\>type c:\$.tmp|find "UninstallString "|find /v /c "Quiet "
    [b]165[/b]

    C:\>del c:\$.tmp

    C:\>
    ---[ScreenCutEnd]---

(Note: The "165" has been highlighted).

Thx for the replies This is not a big concern for me but an aggravation! I just timed it, with show updates and without and the times were about the same 1min.30 The speed of my computer is pretty fast p4 2.5 oc to 3.1 so I don't think thats the hang up! I just turned on indexing of the hard drive to see if that would help but it didn't! o well. not to many prg. installed about 90
