I'm helping a friend with his slow computer. His Norton Antivirus identified Adwarehotbar. I downloaded a removal tool (he can't get to internet - AOL problems) to a CD and plan to run it today. I installed Spybot and Adaware on his computer but can't update/run them until we get the internet connection issue resolved. We also plan to uninstall Norton and install AVG.

When we get an internet connection, could/should the Adwarehotbar removal tool and Spybot and Adaware be run in safe mode? I have never used safe mode so I am unsure about it.

    Hi virginia,

I've moved your thread to the spyware/virus removal section.
Yes, you can, and is generally a better way to remove malware because there is a better chance of disabling memory procceses that the malware is running.

    Regards - Charles
