Where do I find the list of programs that launch at boot up so I can disable those that run in background that I rarely use?

You can use msconfig - Startup tab, but I would suggest Starter as more user friendly.

Alternatively WinPatrol has the same ability to control startup items with the added bonus of being able to set a startup delay for specific items - I use it to fire up OE and a few other items 20-30 secs after boot.

I installed Starter and find it easy to use. Thanks for your advice.

Problem solved. Boot up this morning was much faster and I didn't break anything. Thanks again.
