I am running vista with an AMD 5200 dual core 250 GB HDD, It boots up into the log in screen in 1 minute I was well pleased with that but when I added a 80 GB sata drive to the system that goes up to 2 1/2 minutes when I add a second 80 GB drive boot time goes to over 4 minutes. The 2 sata drives are for data storage only there is no OS on them. Has anyone got any ideas how to speed the boot times up please.

    Thanks TonyT
I have disabled Indexing and Search services on those drives and it has made no difference it still takes over 4 minutes to boot to the log in screen. After the post the screen goes blank for around 2 minutes before the microsoft loading bar appears after that has loaded there is no problem.

Move your main HD to the top of the list of boot devices in the BIOS. That'll only take a fraction off, though.

Look at your start-up programs (applications that start every time Windows starts) and remove any that you don't really use.

How much RAM do you have? You didn't really state that, but that is crucial! You need at least 1.5GB. 2GB would be ideal.

    Thanks for your help,
I have now solved the problem by disabling sata ports 2 and 3 in the Bios as they were not being used and now booting to the login screen in 58 seconds.
