slow appearance of screen icons

    on start-up screen icons are slow to appear on-screen. pc behaving normally apart from this

    What is the history behind the problem?
    Is this a new pc or new installation of Windows?
    It could be some other program or device you installed is causing Windows to take a little longer to load.

    Could be that your icon cache is not large enough ....

    Download and merge with the registry the reg file here ....

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs.../IconCache.reg

    This will add a choice of icon cache sizes to Tools > Folder Options > View - scroll to the bottom (screenshot). Set a larger size.
