For the last week the whole computer system goes to sleep, regardless of activity. I have a compaq presario 5000 series running windows xp home. i have gone to the control panel to power options, restored to an earlier date, device manager, i just can't figure out why the system goes to sleep when it want's to. the mouse does not work, the keyboard, the monitor, even the power button will not work. the moon icon on the keyboard comes on when this happens, but the moon button will not work.

moodman - Welcome to the Board :)

A little more detail, please ....

When the computer 'goes to sleep' are there any indications that it is still powered up, such as the power light remaining on on your tower/whatever?

Any indication at all of hard drive activity?

How do you restart the computer?

Next time this happens and immediately after you restart the computer look in Event Viewer for any error messages timed to coincide with going to sleep - especially any flagged yellow or red.

Right click My Computer icon > Manage > Event Viewer > System. Double click on a message to open and on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy to clipboard. Paste any relevant messages here.
