slave drive prob

    ji, i have a windows 98 standard edition, and am trying to install a seagate 10 gig u seiries as a slave. but my computer (before and after i formated it)told me i only have 7.78 mb on it. please help!

    Hello EKOS and welcome to the WindowsBBS.

    I think you have run across a BIOS limitation rather than a Windows 98 limit.

    See this page from Seagate: BIOS Limitations , particlularly the the part entitled : "8.4-Gbyte Limitation "

    I looks like you may have to install some drive overlay software to overcome the limitations of an older BIOS in order to have the bios "see" the 10GB drive.

    Thank you very much. I was so frusterated by this. It is working now, all I needed was to upgrade my BIOS. I wish I had a better computer, but I'm working with what life gives me so far.

    Glad to here you are up and running now. Installing large hard drives in older computers can be quite a challenge at times.
