Yesterday, out of the blue, Skype appears on my taskbar. Why?

I changed the setting from "show all" to select which ones to show. I deselected Skype but it still shows. Why?

They always find a way to annoy me! Why?

If you right click on it do you see an unpin option?

And or right-click or secondary click the status icon in the system tray and select Quit Skype.

No unpin option, only open or exit.

I'm not sure I know what you mean. Our computers speak different languages and "the system tray" may be what I refer to as the taskbar. Right-clicking the Skype-icon brings up "status", "open" and "exit" (but in Swedish).

Since I never use it, I could uninstall it.

It disappears but returns upon restart of the computer.

To open the Startup folder in Windows 10, open Run box and:

Type shell:startup and hit Enter to open the Current Users Startup folder
Type shell:common startup and hit Enter to open the All Users Startup folder.

This happened to me last year after the cumulative update.
I just Right Clicked and unpinned it - no problem.
Haven't seen it again since. You must be the "chosen one" Christer.

Start > right-click Skype > it is NOT pinned.

    Yup ... :D ... they know where I live!

I just hope they'll focus on building a good operating system ... ... but leave it to the users what to do with it.

    Start > right-click Skype -> WRONG

You need to right click on it in the Task Bar.

If I right-click the icon on the taskbar, there's no option to "pin or unpin". I have to click the Windows icon at the lower left (start) > find Skype > right-click and find the choice to "pin or unpin".

I have Edge, Explorer, Control Panel, Snipping tool,MS Office, FF & TB on my Taskbar and a Right click always gives the choice to Unpin from Taskbar.

Maybe you're right in the sense of Windows 7 Pro > Windows 10 Pro. My system was upgraded (I'm not sure it really was an upgrade) from the former to the latter and I believe that a "few" things differ from a clean installation of Windows 10. I have a LapTop running Windows 10 Home to compare but then again Home differs from Pro.

This HP Laptop has W10 Home 64bit version 2004 and the Unpin function is definitely available.
My other HP laptop (2014 model) with the same W10 version also works OK with Unpin.
3 desktops with W10 version 2004 also have this function and my dedicated W10 "Insider" ditto.
    Have you tried sfc /scannow?

Pardon me for butting in, but have you looked at taskmanager in the startup folder?
I disabled it there and it was gone.

Nope, I have not yet upgraded to 2004 and if the problem persists after that, I'll review my options.

I can unpin (remove) anything from the lefthand side of the lower area of the screen. Is that the "task bar" in english? (Aktivitetsfält in Swedish.)

The Skype icon with a few other icons appear on the righthand side of the screen. (See the attached screenshot.)
