    Hiya

If he was using IE, he could have tried a few things. One is a repair:

Control Panel | AddRemove. Doubleclick Microsoft Internet Explorer. Choose Repair, apply and restart.

After that, its just a matter of pinpointing. Maybe looking for the SAM file.

    Regards

    Hiya

Start>Find>Files, key in Hosts and press enter. If you see a file named just Hosts with no extension, right click on it and rename it Hosts.old
you may find a Hosts.sam file but that won't be related to your problem. You're only interested in renaming any file just called Hosts with no file extension on the end. Make sure that you have closed all instances of Internet Explorer.

Also, check for how many versions of wsock32.dll is on the system. Duplicates can cause problems.

    Regards

    Thanks .

I had read a post about Host files a while back , anf even looked them up on my PC [forget why now] , but didn't even think about them{seems it's getting to where I know more and more about less and less untill I know almost evrything about nothing} , I'll pass this information on to my friend..

FYI what ever ver. of IE that was on the machine did not have a repaire , I was told IE5 , he tried to check for that ..

    Hiya

as for the repair not working, if it was IE6 I'd understand. But IE5 should have it. Have a look at this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q194177

    and at the bottom
