Someone just gave me a old IBM with Win 95 that I have been playing with. Is there any way to set up Win 95 to single click instead of double clicking? I am accustomed to XP and 98 and double clicking is a bother. Thanks in advance for any info.

Check your mouse options (in the Control Panel) and you may find a one-click setting.

Thanks for the reply,Brett. I checked the mouse options in the control panel but there does not seem to be anything to allow single clicking. I guess that this just was not a feature in Win 95.

It's been a long time since I used 95 but it seems to me there was a single click option. Open windows explorer and click tools>folder options and see if you can set it in there somewhere. If the folder options isn't in the tools menu, have a look in the others.

Did a little searching on this and it turns out it's a feature of the active desktop that gets installed when you install IE4. If you've never had IE4 installed you won't have the option. If this is the case you can use plansdowne's desktop update to install it without having to install IE4. Number 15 in the list. Be sure to read the readme file first.

My brother used it once and it worked fine for him. That's the only experience I've had with it. If you don't like the looks of that you can go here and have a look at the second item in the list titled Add_Active_Desktop_To_IE5.txt. It tells you 4 different ways it can be done. Never tried any of them myself though

Zander, thanks very much for taking the time to run this down. I have downloaded the info but do not have access to the 95 computer right now. I will try the fixes tonight and let you know what happens. Sounds like you have found the solution. Thanks again.

Zander,I tried the links you gave but did not have any luck due to problems in my computer. Finally decided to install IE 4 and then back to IE 5. Searched all over and finally found a site in Thailand to download IE 4. I downloaded on my XP computer and burned it to a cd-r to speed up the process. Un-installed IE 5 but when I tried to load IE 4 from the cd-r,there was a problem and it would not work.

I have decided that I am going to way to much trouble for such a small problem. I will live with double clicking since I just play on the 95 system occasionally anyway.

Thanks for your effort to find the solutions you came up with. That was a nice piece of detective work. I had searched on Google and everywhere with no success. If my computer was not messed up, your solutions would probably have worked.

    Take care---golfman2

Well I knew I seen it somewhere, and sure enough it's on my mouse menu... button selection option called "Double Click ". When assigned, one click of the mouse will launch a double click request. I'm using a Logitech Cordless Trackman Wheel on both networked XP and w95. I'm not sure how many models this button option is included. But I believe you would need a minimum of a 3 button mouse to be functional. The following are found in Logitech's "Button" tab view. Descriptions are using Logitech's "button name assignment ", tested on w95.
    Left click -- assigned to "Click/Select "
This is your normal click twice key. I re-assigned it to "Double click" Warning message appeared.... At least one button MUST be assigned to "Click/Select ". Assign another button to "Click/Select" before you assign this one. (ok will leave you alone).
Right Click -- assigned "Content menu/Alternate Select ". Now this does just what we all expect a right click to do.. and to be functional should be available, but is NOT required. So I assigned "Double Click" to the "Scroll Wheel" which has a second function as a "clickable" button when depressed.. and it worked just fine, launching double click requests with a single click. With further testing, could assign the above 3 operations to any button on the mouse.

    Success at last

Well, I now have single clicking working.Searched until I found a site from which I could download IE 4. Downloaded on another computer, burned to CD and transferred to the Win 95 computer.
Upon installation, I now have active desktop and single clicking.
Also downloaded IE 5.5 from the same site and will install it back later.

If anyone is interested in older versions of IE (MS has now stopped downloading 5.5), the site is--
    http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit.

Thanks again to all who posted with help and info.
