My daughter's computer has always been able to play Sims discs. She got the most recent one (Sims 3) and we cannot get it to load. The drive recognizes audio discs but it will not load the Sims. I have established that it is not the disc as I have been able to run it on other computers. As I said, she has always been able to load the previous versions of the game on this drive.

Is there something I can do without getting a new drive?

    Thanks.

I probably should mention that she is getting
a System32 error message on startup.

Can she still load the older versions?

Can you post the full text of the error message?

Have you checked in Device Manager to see if all is well with the optical drives?

I expect the installer disk is a DVD for Sims 3 and it seems the drive is not a DVD reader. Look at the embosing/information on the front (door) of the drive. If it says CD and not DVD, then it cannot read DVD's.

Yes, she can still load the older versions.....and I think it is because the new one is a DVD ROM. The old versions aren't. Thanks for the help on that.

    The error message is:

    ERROR LOADING C:\win\system32\ryfodjiu.dll

The specified module could not be found

Apparently, one has nothing to do with the other. Still curious as to how I can clear that message. I did read that AVG can cause problems with system32 and she does have the free version of that on this PC.

Where do I see the optical drivers?

    Thanks for your help!

There are no hits on Google for ryfodjiu.dll which is highly suspicious and points to a possible infection on the computer - is the spelling correct? .....

Download, install, update and run - not simultaneously ....

    Malwarebytes

    SuperAntiSpyware

If the message persists after running head over to the Malware & Virus Removal forum and ....

Please read this as indicated at the head of the forum and post the logs requested in a new thread.
