On my new IBM T43 laptop/Windows XP SP2 I'm running Checkpoint Secure Remote which comes with its own firewall. For that and other reasons advised by our company network manager, I want to permanently shut off Windows own firewall.

When I go to Control Panel-Windows Firewall and select the OFF radio button, it doesn't stay off across a reboot. I didn't have this problem with my desktop machine when I did this. How do I get this OFF setting to be permanent, i.e. stay off across a reboot?

    Thanks.

Go into system services, locate ...
Windows Firewall / Internet connection sharing (ICS)
If service is running, stop service.
    Disable service.
CAUTION -- The above action will / may terminate other dependent services. For my configuration it causes no problems. If it does create a problem, change status to "Manual ".
