I killed my computer trying to clean the Reg., so I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro. I use to have 3-4 Checklet buttons that would pop-up in the middle of the screen when I would select shutdown, but now I have the old style scroll box. How do I get the Buttons to come back. I liked them because I change from restart to shutdown all the time and It was alot faster when I could just hit what I wanted.

    Thanks CarterTaz:eek:

Here's an even better way ... put shutdown and restart icons on your Desktop or on your Start menu.

Right-click on your Desktop and select New, then Shortcut from the context menus. Browse your way to C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe. Give your shortcut a name, and close the wizard.

Open the icon's properties and add -s -t 0 at the end of the target line, with a space between .exe and -s. Change the icon image to something appropriate.

If you use only the -s argument, there is a 30 second delay built into the shutdown. The -t 0 argument gives you an immediate shutdown, although you can change the 0 to any numerical value (in seconds) you like.

For a restart icon, copy the shutdown icon and paste it back to your Desktop. Rename it, and open the properties. This time, add -r -t 0 to the end of the target line. Give it a distinctive image.

The shutdown command accepts a lot of different arguments, and you can tailor it in many different ways. To see what they are, open a command window and type shutdown.

    Hope this helps you.

Thanks, but this will only give me a shortcut for shutdown. My ? is why did the checklet buttons go away when I re-install windows and how do I get them back. Like I said before I don't always shutdown, I use all the shutdown options (reboot, standby, etc.).

    Thanks

By "checklet" buttons, I assume you mean the Stand By, Turn Off, and Restart buttons on the "Turn off computer" screen, which you get when you click on Turn Off Computer on the Start menu.

I don't know why you've lost them, as they would seem to be an integral part of the WinXP GUI.

Shutdown, Restart, and Log Off are all available via the shortcuts I described (I neglected to include the argument for Log Off, which is -l). The only one not available is Standby ... not important to me, as I never put my computer into standby, but I use the other three all the time.

Go to Settings, Control Panel, User Accounts and click on "Change the way users sign on... ".
Enable the login screen and the fast user switching.

Let us know if that doesn't do it.

    Thanks Everyone

Thanks for all the help. You got me going in the right direction. Some how or another Clinent Services for Netware got installed and that was why I couldn't change logon or logoff options. I just needed to uninstall it and now everything works great.

    Thanks again.:D
