Your going to have to be more descriptive and specific in your problem.

Any errors, while attempting the shutdown?

What's running in the background before you attempt the shutdown? Check this by taskmanager using cntrl/alt/del keyboard combo.

What virus? Does AVG have a log file that you can read to see if it the clean up involved some system files. Whether they be quarantined or deleted, either can be a problem.

Run online virus scans, pay a visit the our security forum and read the stickies pinned to the top of the forums. Links are provided inside. Sometimes..No! make that most or all the time.. one virus scanner is not enough to catch all. Particularly if this is adware/malware related. There are some will tough critters out there that take hard work to get rid of permanently or they keep boomeranging back.

Search the archives of past posts for "clean boot" troubleshooting "shutdown problems ".
