I am a new subscriber, and have reviewed a number of posts but do not see what I need to address.
I have 2 PCs (Dell and HP) both with WinXP PRo OS recently networked (with no internet connectivity) at home. Although I am just getting used to navigating between the two, when I am on one, I cannot determine how to shutdown the other. This is more of a nuisance than anything, but I would like to overcome it so I can cease having to move the connections for my monitor and mouse to the other PC in order to view the controls to shut it down. Any recommendations will be gratefully received.

You can get certain programs that allow you to control your other computer over a network. You can use Netmeeting, which is built into windows and allow remote control. I think an investment in a KVM switch would be worth it to you.

Another option is to use remote desktop which is built into XP Pro. There is a guide to setting up remote desktop here.

Note that this guide assumes you are connecting into a remote system, but the procedure is the same. When you get to the point to connect, instead of putting in a full DNS address you can either enter the Computer name, or IP address of the PC you are connecting to.

Once you have connected in via remote desktop you should be able to shut the other PC down from the remote desktop.

You can use remote desktop as above posts, you could also just use the computer management console aswell to shut down other computers if you have the correct permissions.
