    Hey everyone,
my C:\ drive always has about 60% free, after starting Diskeeper the other day it's showing less than 50%. So when I was looking around to see whats taking up all the space I came across Nethood.
I checked out what it's for and from what i can gather, it's for network shortcuts right? Well I have two other comps here, with multiple HDDs and partitions in each, so I do have alot of mapped drives and shortcuts to specific folders in a couple of those drives. I think I have about 12 or so network shares and 3 or 4 of those are mapped drives.
Getting back to Nethood, it's just over a gig in size! Is this correct or is something wrong here? It looks like alot of caching is going on here, but if it's cached why can't I see anything when the shared comps. are off?
I'd love to have the space back if possible. If not i'm just gonna have to format and give C:\ a couple more gigs I guess.
I have most of my icons customized and I have thumbnails on for pics of my music folders and I found thst XP is refreshing alot these days, by itself, after I go through my music folders and such.

So, do I need all this stuff in Nethood or can I delete it all and just use My Network Places to access the shares?

My C:\ drive is 18 gigs and the page file is set to system managed size.
IE gets 576mb cuz I don't use it I use Firefox and that would use default settings.

C:\ and F:\ are two partitions of one physical drive.
I guess having more than 18 gigs for Windows would be a good idea right?
    I have XP Pro.

I also have one more little prob that I'm not to concerned about, however it is annoying. When ever I install anything that uses Installshield to install it always freezes at 99% and then just stops on it's own after 5 mins or so like it was never started. There is an Installshield update that I have and it did not do anything. I also have all the latest drivers for all components in all my comps.

Anything in the nethood dir should be visible in My Network Places anyway. Nethood is a dir that holds the shortcuts to Network Places recently accessed, such as shares, ftp server dirs, etc.

It's very unusual for the nethood dir to be that large, perhaps you misread the actual dir size? With 2 entries in my nethood dir it's 778 bytes in size. In Folder Options I also have "automatically search for net folders & printers" UNchecked.

For some reason, your nethood dir may be storing log files, which possibly could be quite large.

As for the install shield pgm, often an antivirus pgm's auto-protect can interfere with it. Check the Event logs under Applications to get a clue as to what is occurring or possible a dependant service that is needed but not started when install shield runs.

    Thanks for the reply TonyT.
Well I'm not misreading the folder sizeas you can see here: http://home.cogeco.ca/~jlouis/SNAG-0001.jpg
But I will uncheck "automatically search for net folders & printers" cuz it is checked. One thing though, when I uncheck it I doubt that the folder will empty itself. It should be ok to delete manually right?
And thanks for the Installshield advice, I'll check it out.
I'll let ya know what happens soon.
    Thanks again

yes, ok to delete items there, but first take a look around the dir and see exactly what files are using that much space, there may possibly even be some temp dirs there used for offline browsing, synchronization etc.
