There is a driver update for my Intel HD Graphic driver. Should I update or only do so if I'm having an issue with it? What is the current school of thought?

If you are not having any problem with your current setup then may be, may be not. Its your call. There is no hard or fast rule.

Most graphics drivers have a changelog which tells of the specific issues that have been resolved as well as any new features/improvements added. The popular chipsets such as nVidia and ATI usually list changes that affect popular games.

I thought the rule was to stick to the driver released on the manufacturer's website and stay away from windows update drivers.

It would be an update directly from the Intel website.

TonyT where would I find this change log? Do you mean on the website like the readme file, or do you mean after installing the new driver?

Varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Most of the vendor's give it upfront on the website or on the download page.

I would say that for a normal (non 'power' user), there's no need to update graphic drivers unless there's a problem.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll leave it unless I have a problem down the road.
